How to Prepare Your Car for Every Season

It’s important to take care of your car year-round. This is how your family gets around, how you get to and from work, and what you will use to teach your teens to drive. If you don’t keep up on regular maintenance, you may end up shelling out a lot of money that you didn’t need to. Here are a few things you can do in each season to keep your car in top-notch condition.

Summer

Summer is a great time for trips and long drives just for fun, but before you can do that, there are a few things to check up on. Extreme temperature differences between the outside and inside of your car can cause any chips or cracks in your windshield to expand, so get those repaired before you hit the road. You should also make sure that you top off any fluids, especially your oil, coolant, and windshield wiper fluid. If you have any mountain trips planned, make sure you get your brakes inspected as well.

Fall

When fall hits, it is time to fix any problems that your car may have encountered during the summer that you haven’t gotten to yet. Any scratches or dings from your summer adventure should be repaired now before they can get worse. You should also change your air filters if you haven’t done that recently. They have collected all the dust and dirt from summer, so they probably aren’t doing a great job of filtering any more.

Winter

Winterizing your car may sound like a lot of work, but it will definitely pay off when it comes to keeping your car in good condition through the cold months. This is another good time to check your brakes. Winter conditions mean that it takes longer to stop, so your brakes need to be in peak condition. You should also check the tread depth of your tires and make sure the pressure is right for cold weather. You should also take the time to properly warm up your car each time you go somewhere, to avoid damaging the engine.

Spring

When spring rolls around, it is time to remove your winter tires and replace them with all-weather tires. Spring is a great time to do some heavy car maintenance before you put the final touches on your car for your summer adventures. Consider using this time when the weather is warming up to perform any modifications to upgrade your car.

No matter what you choose to do with your car, you want to make sure that it stays in good condition for a long time. Use this seasonal guide as a starting spot for your car care.
