Bathroom Items That Should Be Replaced Often

Your bathroom is one of the most essential rooms in your home. Bathrooms are used multiple times a day and help you keep up good hygiene. Because there can be a lot of excess moisture in bathrooms, there are some items that should be replaced regularly.

Towels

If not dried out properly, towels retain a lot of moisture. This is because towels are constantly being used to dry off your hands or body. Additionally, folded or crumpled towels take even longer to dry. Bacteria thrive on moist surfaces, so drying off with a damp towel can mean rubbing germs all over your clean hands and body. This can lead to serious skin irritation, breakouts, and other problems.

To prevent bacteria from growing and lingering on your towels, you should spread out the fabric as much as possible between uses to speed up the drying process. You should also wash your towels with hot water and ample detergent twice a week or more as needed.

Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes are very important in keeping up your oral health. Oral health is directly linked to overall health because anything ingested through the mouth travels immediately through the body. Toothbrushes have specific designs and stiffnesses to properly clean your teeth and tongue, preventing harmful bacteria from being ingested or causing infection.

Once a toothbrush has lost its stiffness and form, it is not as effective for keeping up good oral health. A toothbrush should be replaced every 3 to 4 months.

Loofahs

Like towels and toothbrushes, loofahs are constantly in contact with your body. Because you use a loofah to scrub yourself clean, you want to make sure that the loofah itself is also clean. Loofahs are designed to be scrunched up, meaning they have lots of crevices and folds where water and moisture can stick around. To help your loofah dry out better between uses, you might consider taking it out of the shower to dry. This will help keep bacteria and other germs at bay. On average, loofahs should be replaced every three to four weeks

To better remember how often to replace bathroom items, you should come up with a system that works well for you. This could look like alternating colors of towels, toothbrushes, or loofahs each time you switch them out to signal when you need to change them. You can use physical or digital reminders to keep yourself on schedule.
