What to Do When You’re Pregnant and Your Ring No Longer Fits

Growing another little human inside of you brings about a host of changes to your body. One of the uncomfortable results of pregnancy is swelling in your hands and feet. The amount of swelling that you experience may be significant enough to necessitate having to take off your wedding ring. Here are three options for you if your ring no longer fits comfortably.

Wear it Differently

Most women find that wearing the ring differently is the easiest way to honor the marriage but still feel comfortable throughout the pregnancy. One popular option is to find a pretty chain and wear the ring on a necklace around your neck. This will keep the ring close to your heart, and you will not have to worry about excessive swelling being a hindrance. Do not wait until the finger is too swollen to make this change. You do not want to end up with a ring that is stuck on a swollen finger.

Get a Temporary Replacement

While it is disappointing to have to hang up your treasured wedding ring while you’re pregnant, you can have fun with a temporary replacement ring. This is the perfect excuse to experiment with a different style or even a different type of stone. Hypoallergenic silicone rings are safe for even the most sensitive skin, making them a good choice for a temporary replacement. Once your ring size changes again, you can go back to wearing your original wedding ring.

Temporarily Resize Them

If your heart is set on wearing your ring throughout the pregnancy as it is intended, you can always choose to have the ring temporarily resized. If you choose to go this route, make sure that you choose a trusted jeweler to do the resizing. Keep in mind that resizing too often may put the ring at risk for damage, making this a poor solution if you plan on doing it for multiple pregnancies. Too many resizing attempts can also impact the setting and lead to loose stones. For this reason, it is important to always make sure that the stone is secure after the resizing has been completed.

Pregnancy is an amazing season of life that changes the body in ways that you probably never thought possible. While some of these changes may be aggravating, it is always important to keep your eye on the prize and focus on enjoying this experience and not worrying about the small stuff.
